My Name is Khan - An Absolutely Awesome Movie

Amazon Review 4 and 5 of 5 Stars

IMDB Page and Rating 6.9 of 10 Stars

Rizwan Khan, a Muslim has Asperger's syndrome but this is not known until he is an adult and moves to America to be with his brother. This is a love story about Khan and his Hindu love interest Mandira. Khan does all he can to get Mandira to marry him. After 9/11 breaks out everything changes. The tradedy, challenges, determinations and ultimate love is displayed.

This book was the basis for the marriage relationship between the main characters of the movie. While the movie seems to be based on a true story there doesn't seem to be any documentation to show this. There was much controversy about the movie because of the airport scene. Screenplay writer Shibani Bathija based the character's treatment much on his own experience and that of others who have faced discrimination post 9/11

I found this movie to be one of the best movies I have ever seen. I am interested in reading the above book, so that I can learn more of the struggles others endure. And I want to learn about triumph over struggles.
It is about more than Asperger Syndrome. It is about dealing with an already difficult situation because of a last name. Hopefully more people will see this and realize that there is no need for prejudice. There was not a large following, it seems, in my area but I suspect it was seen more in larger cities.

  1. I agree with you! This was an awesome movie that kept my interest. It did not lull as some long movies may do. I did not realize it was 2 hr and 25 minutes long, but it was worth every minute.
Great movie! Great actors! Great directorship!
    Awesome review!
